Goddess of .. The everlasting quest for more Chick Lit !

Go ahead bloggies,

Call me cheesy. Tell me it's corny. Borderline cliché.
Sue me for all I care .. I love Chick Lit !

Dictionary

Chick Lit

- fiction
directed at young city women: a genre of fiction targeted to, and written by or about, young and sophisticated urban women.

I love it so much that I have now started a quest for chick lit blogs .. mostly because I don't have enough time to read the books I have waiting on my nightstand .. namely : Lipstick Jungle and Chasing Harry Winston.

Here are the some of the ones I consider Chick Lit blogs :
..and I mean this in the nicest way possible, please take this as a very high compliment !

Got any Chick Lit suggestions for me ?? Books ? Blogs ? Etc ?

Altough I haven't read her (yet), I'm not a fan of Sophie Kinsella (Shopaholic series) because I think she pops out a new book every two weeks so it can't possibly be any good :oP Hehe, seriously !

But my favorites are Lauren Weisberger (Devil wears Prada, Everyone Worth Knowing, Chasing Harry Winston, etc.) and Candace Bushnell (Sex and the City, One Fifth Avenue, Lipstick Jungle, etc.).

On that note, here's my "Personal guide to recognizing Chick Lit" when I see it :

  1. The titles : Sometype of diary or confessions, refering to urban life, single life, sex life, love life, party life, rich and fancy life, etc.
  2. The cover images : Colorful, Happy, with images of Stilettos, Martinis, Shopping Bags, Cosmopolitans, Diamonds, Lingerie, Champagne, etc.
  3. The story : Love (finding Mr. Right), Sex (and lots of it), Work (bitchy boss and coworkers), Girlfriends (for support and cocktails), Ending (happy of course) etc.
  4. Last step, you find them in the Bargain section @ your local bookstore !

Life is too short not to admit you loOoOoOove Chick Lit too !

The first Sophie Kinsella was GREAT. They drop off after that, most definitely, but are still a fun read... well, the two others I read anyway. I trailed off after that.

I was invited to write Chick Lit as a female voice a few years ago in short book form. I considered it, but when I picked up a few popular novellas, they all had practically the same story just changed names, locations and periods.

I'd be willing to look at some more unique stuff.

Thanks for the "shout-out!" I love chick-lit too...I actually met the author of "How to be Single" this past summer (she was also a writer for SATC! Check that one out if you haven't yet ;)

@ LiLu : I might give her a chance at some point, she's popular, it must not be totally unjustified. hehe :)

@ ChicagoSane : Perhaps you could've made it totally different ?

@ Tiffany : Thanks for the suggestions! I'll check em out for sure :)

@ High-heel gal : "How to Be Single" is going on my to-read list.. I read she was also a co-author for He's Just Not That Into You.. how was she, the author, btw ?

love, love, love chick lit. Favorite author is Jane Green (at least her early stuff) and Sophie Kinsella's non-shopoholic books. Also, I really love Jen Lancaster. She's not so much chick lit, more like writing about randomness in her life. But she's freaking hilarious.

I used to like ChickLit a lot, but then I started to find that they were all the same. Some are really funny though, like Jenny Colgan.

A couple of years ago I decided that there are so many books and so little time to read them, that I would try top only read books either by authors I loved, or which I could talk about with people afterwards (ie. recommended books, classics etc).

I don't miss the chick lit.

I still read Bridget Jones. All the time!

@ bianca : Wow, thanks for the suggestions, I have plenty new authors (new to me) to check out now :) Great !

@ blueskies2day : Yeah, I do agree though, I'd rather not waste perfectly good reading time, by reading crappy stuff. But I think there's still some good chicklit our there that I haven't read. I'm a sucker for a good modern love story, no matter how predictable !
